Mr. Miller's ClassWelcome to Mr. Miller's Website. Here you will find course materials, additional notes, tools, videos, and overall course objectives for the school year. I am a firm believer that the subject of English is not just about writing and reading but rather it is a subject that allows us to explore the world from historical, religious, humane, and moral perspectives. This then allows us to have a better understanding of our world and invites us to rejoice in our accomplishments and learn from our past mistakes. Through reading, writing, speaking, acting, role playing, drawing, and music we can dissect a literary work to its fullest and gain a better understanding both from a literary standpoint and a worldly one as well.
Walt Whitman wrote "I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world." This quote was made even more famous after the movie Dead Poets Society gained national attention and even more recently after the death of the lead actor Robin Williams. Whitman was saying that we all have accomplishments and failures in our lives. We must own our failures and learn from them in order for us to climb our own roofs and "yawp" in celebration of our achievements. This quote is ever so true for my classroom. The work is not easy and you may fail at certain components throughout the year, but as long as you learn from those failures, pick yourself up and continue to climb, you too will be able to YAWP for your accomplishments. My door is always open to all of my students. PLEASE do not hesitate to ask questions, come in before or after school, or ask for additional help. We are in this together and I will do everything in my power for you to succeed. |
